Southern California Edison: The Power Giant of Electric Utilities
The provider’s journey began in August 1909 when it consolidated all of Edison's properties under one umbrella. Its electric company's assets were later acquired by SoCal, paving the way for the Southern California Edison Company's birth. The company's commitment to a sustainable future is equally noteworthy. Over the years, it has emerged as a champion of renewable energy, diligently promoting and implementing a plethora of green initiatives. Going Solar with SCE: Solar Billing Plan and Other Perks
Embracing solar energy with SCE comes with several enticing perks, chief among them is the Solar Billing Plan (SBP), also known as Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0. The provider has tailored this new initiative to further encourage its customers to harness renewable energy.
Introduced on April 15, 2023, the Solar Billing Plan supersedes the NEM 2.0 program. Its design ensures that if you generate more electricity than your household consumes, the surplus isn't wasted. Instead, it finds its way back to the grid, and SCE solar program rewards you with compensation for the energy exported.
Now, if you're already eyeing this plan, keep in mind that there's a transition period. SCE solar will need 12 to 24 months to update its billing system to fully accommodate the new Solar Billing Plan. During this period, new customers will be billed under the preceding NEM 2.0 program.
Moreover, the utility collaborates with the California Solar Initiative to offer special rebate programs, the Single-Family Affordable Solar Housing (SASH) and Multi-Family Affordable Solar Housing (MASH). These programs ensure that lower-income households in the provider’s service area can also harness the power of the sun and reap its bountiful benefits.
